Goodbye Kansas Socks

Tomorrow is the day when I have to say "Goodbye, Kansas!" because I'm finally moving to North Carolina for graduate school!  I always pictured myself tripping through life without a care in the world at this moment; however, in reality I'm currently rushing around packing and worrying that everything might not fit into my little compact car (for those of you wondering, the drive is 20 hours).

Like many of you have expressed in the past, knitting is the key to maintaining cool during stressful times, so I quickly finished my Sunny Day Socks for the Ravellenic Games 2012!

These are just regular vanilla socks that I whipped up as an excuse to knit this pretty yarn I dyed using egg dyes last month.

Please ignore the laddering (my knitting demon) and instead admire the pretty striping!  I also attempted a picot edge for the first time, it is really fun and produces a super cute ruffly edge

I'm very excited to have finished my first project for the Ravellenic Games, which has been entered in the sock category and the one skein category.

For those of you who are taking part in the games, keep up the amazing work!  Happy crafting everyone!

  8. Safe travels and everything good to you in this next adventure.
PS I also thought the "laddering" a design element - those sock are too cute for words.

  9. I thought the laddering was on purpose too. If you are going to have it, the side of the foot is a good place for it to be.
Good luck with your move! I think it'll be a good one for you.

  14. A new adventure begins! How exciting. I'm certain that everything will fall into place. When you encounter bumps along the way, stay cool, grab your yarn and know that you're strong and you can handle it. I can't wait to see what's next! Be safe and enjoy yourself (these are the moments you'll always remember).
Of course your socks are great! Love the picot edge and the orange and teal (who knew they'd look so good together!)

  19. Like the others I saw the ladder as a design feature. I hope you get packed up ok, don't forget to leave the yarn and needles at the top. Safe journey, happy travels

  23. Oh see until you mentioned the ladder I thought that was intentional. I love orange and blue together so that's a good combo!

BTW update on the boy, he told me to have fun at knit night last night so I think he approve of the fiber obsession. I will keep you updated.

    1. Hi. Your socks are beautiful. Hope your move to NC goes smoothly. Be sure to check out the mini version of Vogue Knitting Live that is coming to Charlotte in September, and the Southeastern Animal Fiber Arts Fair in Asheville in October is really great--lots of interesting stuff for spinners and knitters. (I tried to post a comment a minute ago and something weird happend with my computer, so you might end up with two nearly identical comments from me).

  30. beautiful! I'm a firm believer in knitting a pair of socks for most major life events.

I recently moved from Connecticut to Kentucky, which took 18 hours, so I'll be thinking about you and your drive! bring lots of snacks and audio books!

  31. Thanks so much for the encouragement on the skirt. I really really do want to make it, and should start it so I can wear it this fall. I don't have the right yarn on hand, or enough of it...despite my huge stash...so have put off going shopping for it, but got the itch.

  32. The socks are so cheery and should brighten any kind of day. I hope your move goes well--such an adventure and I have heard NC is very lovely. I giggled today as I was cleaning out a cupboard which seems to collect so much stuff. Buried in the back was an egg coloring kit I purchased 2 years ago but never used--at the time, never dreaming in a million years I would someday be looking at with an eye towards using it to dye some yarn!

  33. Those came out great! The color distribution is wonderful... no big pooling spots! Good job on the dye job and the knitting.

I'm from Georgia and just think that the South is the best place in the world! You're going to love NC.
